Wall to ceiling windows to maximise the sea views and a park across the road, Anne Moors weatherboard house in Maraetai isn’t your typical family home. The Moors purchased this house in 2014, once it had been renovated by their daughter and her husband. This allowed the retired couple to be involved in various renovation decisions, including the choice of spouting and downpipes.

SMS plumbing owner, Shay Spyve and a fellow employee installed the system for Anne in 6 hours, both the upper and lower levels including downpipes.  Having run a plumbing company in a coastal area for many years, he has noticed the ever-changing rainwater market.  Shay acknowledged the tendency homeowners have to lean toward more weather resistant products, “Copper is becoming a less desirable product due to the corrosion factor”. The dwelling’s original spouting was set behind a fascia, creating problems with moisture ingress into the building envelope. The concealed gutter system was also unflattering to the house’s modern look.
