Wall to ceiling windows to maximise the sea views and a park across the road, Anne Moors weatherboard house in Maraetai isn’t your typical family home. The Moors purchased this house in 2014, once it had been renovated by their daughter and her husband. This allowed the retired couple to be involved in various renovation decisions, including the choice of spouting and downpipes.
SMS plumbing owner, Shay Spyve and a fellow employee installed the system for Anne in 6 hours, both the upper and lower levels including downpipes. Having run a plumbing company in a coastal area for many years, he has noticed the ever-changing rainwater market. Shay acknowledged the tendency homeowners have to lean toward more weather resistant products, “Copper is becoming a less desirable product due to the corrosion factor”. He went on to explain, that the Marley Stratus Design Series fulfilled its mandatory need “with its high flow volume being able to catch and retain the water without it spilling over the edge”.
I thought the Titanium colour from the Stratus Design Series would go really well, and it has proven to fit perfectly with the colours of the house
This home needed a durable spouting and downpipe system which could stand up against the coast’s harsh weather, whilst matching the overall aesthetic. The Marley Stratus Design Series delivers on this need and with its 15 year guarantee ensures it’s a look that lasts. Simply stated by Shay, “It is plastic, durable and the colour suited the house”.
The Marley Stratus Design Series® is offered in Typhoon® spouting and 80mm downpipe with titanium or copper hybrid-metallic finishes available. This Maraetai property utilised the internal brackets in the titanium finish.

Design Challenge: Match a modern aesthetic and remove a concealed gutter system.
This delightful Meadowbank residence has undergone an extreme make over from a 137m² floor plan to a 265m² floor plan. Aside from adding a new level, the house has also become more refined with its new external spouting from the Marley Stratus Design Series®.
Marley’s Typhoon® half-round spouting and RP80® 80mm round downpipes are an external system that not only keeps water outside the building but also create an eye-catching aesthetic
The dwelling’s original spouting was set behind a fascia, creating problems with moisture ingress into the building envelope. The concealed gutter system was also unflattering to the house’s modern look. Marley’s Typhoon® half-round spouting and RP80® 80mm round downpipes are an external system that not only keeps water outside the building but also create an eye-catching aesthetic. The homeowner, Dave Thomas, selected internal spouting brackets to further accentuate the smooth visual lines framing the house. The Marley Stratus Design Series® offers peace of mind as it is purpose–built for New Zealand’s varying weather conditions, and will never rust.
Like all Marley spouting and downpipe systems, the Marley Stratus Design Series® has been designed with the planet in mind. It is 100% recyclable, certified for use with potable water and long-lasting with a 15–year guarantee.
