Soaking up the sun in Samoa.

Samoa has a goal of achieving 100 percent renewable energy generation by 2017. To help achieve this goal, they reached out to various neighbouring countries for support. New Zealand is currently working in partnership with the government of Samoa, to develop renewable energy options. Both countries have a strong focus on generating as much renewable energy as possible to save on fossil fuels.

The Apia Sports Complex is one key project that is part of this renewables initiative. As the Honourable Murray Mc Cully (New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade) stated; “The 2.2 megawatt peak photovoltaic (PV) array at the Apia Sports Complex will provide the highest electrical output from a single installation in the South Pacific ”. This solar farm project, along with the Apia Gym 3 and Salelologa solar arrays, was New Zealand’s contribution to Samoa’s renewable energy programme. These three projects will increase the amount of electricity generated from renewable systems by 4.5% and will supply approximately 4400 households.
We don’t know of anyone else who makes HD (Heavy Duty) Solar Conduit in New Zealand and it is required for these projects

Reid Technology was the contractor who won the international tender for this project. Established in 1956, this family owned business has been operating for nearly sixty years, specialising in large solar projects for the last ten. Reid Technology are leaders in solar power and use only the best suppliers and products to complete their projects. Sourcing Marley solar conduit through JA Russell was an obvious choice. As David Reid explains; “We use JA Russell as a key supplier for our projects and Marley are their primary supplier of conduit.” He further explains; “We don’t know of anyone else who makes HD (Heavy Duty) Solar Conduit in New Zealand and it is required for these projects”. Solar conduit is required to adhere to the electrical standard AS/NZS 5033. Reid Technology must be making the right choices for their projects, as the Apia Gym 3 , won the Best Solar System Award at the SEANZ (Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand) Awards in 2014.
Marley New Zealand provides a solar conduit solution in both rigid and flexible conduit. It is UV resistant and rated heavy duty; providing high impact mechanical protection to keep your cable system as safe as possible. Marley’s solar conduit range is Best Environmental Practice certified and as such attracts positive credits under the New Zealand Green Building Council’s Green Star rating system for commercial buildings.

Copper spouting theft is not an uncommon occurrence, but when Bear Park Early Childhood Centre, Auckland, had their copper spouting stolen for the third time, enough was enough.

While copper spouting has always been admired for its aesthetic effect, the recurring crime was enough to deter the nursery from the copper look permanently… or so they thought.
Marley was made aware of the situation by one of their recommended installers, Supercity Property Services. Marley knew exactly what to do – their New Zealand made, designer uPVC spouting and downpipes known as the Marley Stratus Design Series® was the perfect answer to the situation.
Marley offered to replace Bear Park’s system free of charge with their uPVC Typhoon® spouting and 80mm round downpipe in a copper-metallic finish. This has solved the nursery’s problem once and for all without the need to sacrifice their much loved copper look.

The Stratus spouting and downpipe system is low maintenance, which suits Bear Park’s busy schedule. Even with the centre’s position near the coast, products from the Marley Stratus will never rust and they are guaranteed for 15 years. Not only are there two colour finishes to choose from, the Marley Stratus Design Series® is available with internal or external brackets to create different looks. Knowing that the product is also 100% recyclable ensures complete peace of mind.
We’re really thrilled with the result; the product looks great, and we don’t have to worry about thieves anymore. We can’t thank Marley enough for their generosity
says Nikki Joyce, owner of Bear Park Nursery.

Design Challenge: Durability and capacity in a tropical location.

Northern Blue Construction and Studio Architects faced such a challenge at the brand new Naisoso island development located in Nadi Bay, Fiji. A short walk from the island’s five-star hotels, gourmet restaurants and vast marina, they have developed a 1000m2 featuring views of Fiji’s tropical hinterland on one side with the idyllic ocean expanse on the other.
Marley’s rugged half-round Magnum® spouting and downpipe system provided the perfect solution, combining style with durability and performance.
One particular challenge for the designers was to safely manage the periods of heavy rainfall common to tropical locations, and do so with spouting and downpipes that would last in the corrosive coastal environment. Marley’s rugged half-round Magnum® spouting and downpipe system provided the perfect solution, combining style with durability and performance. Installer Blueridge Plumbing also remarked on the ease of installation in what was its first experience using Marley Magnum®.

With a spouting cross-sectional area of over 14,000mm2 and large 110mm downpipes, the Marley Magnum® system has the capacity to handle large roofs and tropical downpours. it is made from 100% recyclable uPVC so will never rust even in the harshest coastal locations. Available in light grey with a distinctive external bracket system, Marley Magnum® makes a design statement that lasts.
Northern Blue and Studio are already planning a further four houses on Naisoso island, all featuring the Marley Magnum® spouting and downpipe system.
